Composition, Orchestration and Trombone - Toby Carswell Percussion, Recording and Mixing - Rhys Davies A massive thanks to our good friends and musical guests: Oboe - Isabel Kent Clarinet - Emma Gerrett Trumpet - Dan Gray Harp - Georgina Wells Violin - Tom Crofton-Green all 7 cellos! - Jenny Sturt It was an incredibly fun and rewarding process to score this beautiful short animation. We aimed to create and otherworldly sense of magic with consonant yet volatile harmony and lush orchestration. The musicians had to record separately because of the state of the world in early 2021, however we are so pleased with our decision to employ our mates for this score; despite the technical challenges! Please enjoy! Recorded at Sound of the Sandbox Recording Studio.

Here is an excerpt from the film CYNEVIN by Seth Hughes - https://vimeo.com/441625009 This is a piece we wrote which went on to inspire our composition, Waves. The slow motion of this piece allows room to enjoy the beauty of the film. Camera work by Seth Hughes captures the stunning long boarding artistry of Mike Lay.

Our submission for the Spitfire Audio Westworld scoring competition 2020. This was a very rewarding piece to create. we attempted to capture the twisted reality that the character Caleb - played by Aaron Paul - is experiencing while under the influence of the drug Genre. There is a juxtaposition of heroic melody against an unstable and glitchy soundscape backdropped by driving synthesisers and percussion. Due to the restrictions of quarantine because of the COVID-19 outbreak this piece was composed in a bedroom with a laptop, a mini midi keyboard and a ukulele (see if you can spot it!). This created some interesting challenges as it is our first time relying so heavily on software instruments; it was fun to find ways of working around this. The great thing about these instruments is the amount of creativity that can go into each patch, with many voices, modulations and automations possible. Anyway, please enjoy our entry to the competition. There have been some amazing entries so big congratulations to everyone who took this on. Finally, don't forget to cheer for the true hero of this scene... the robot bike!! Thank you for watching.

Waves is an original composition in two movements combining elements of synthetic sounds with expansive orchestral depth. Serum is a synthesiser widely known for its huge and aggressive tones often used in dubstep and EDM but it was used much more delicately here as the main body of sound in duet with solo violin. That same soft yet unstable sound continues to define the rest of the piece. This composition was a joy to work on as a great variety of techniques were used in the writing process; from an intimate two person improvisation to meticulous orchestral arranging. Solo Violin - Wilmien J Van Rensburg Orchestral Arrangment - Toby Carswell Composition & Production - Rhys Davies

This piece was composed for the 2020 Adam Audio Soundtrack Competion. There was an instant challenge with this competition as the piece could only be up to 30 seconds long. We tried to capture the essence of a dingy yet sophisticated backstreet bar with the sound of an intimate jazz ensemble. All is not as it seems though as all it takes is the slightest disturbance to create a little risk and tension; something no good story is told without! Composition - Toby Carswell Trombone - Toby Carswell Trumpet - Daniel Gray Saxophones - Seve Chuquivala Drum set - Rhys Davies Bass - Rhys Davies Production - Rhys Davies

Quest to Morrow Dean is short piece piece inspired by the Metroidvania game genre. The combination of using 8-bit sounds and harmony influenced by the baroque era creates a jaunty yet eery piece of music. Composition and animation by Toby Carswell Production by Rhys Davies

Dystopia is short piece born from a mashup of Trance EDM and Classic Video Game music. The core of the work is the juxtaposition between the driving 5/8 bass line and the heavy 4/4 backbeat. This piece, to me, brings to mind a pixelated dystopian future, hence the title of the piece and the inspiration for the quirky animation. Composition and mixing by Rhys Davies. Jungle run is a quirky and high energy piece composed almost entirely of body percussion and voice. The rest of the percussion heard is made from household objects. The only “real” instrument featured is the Cuica, which is heard in the second tutti groove section. This was recorded on a fun but exhausting and hot London day at the studio. Im sure the neighbours we’re most perplexed at the sounds of grunting, stomping and waling! Composition, performance and mixing by Rhys Davies.
